The most commonly injured carpal bone is
A. LunateB. Scaphoid
C. Capitates
D. Hamate
E. Pisiform
The Answer is. B. Scaphoid
Scaphoid is made
up of the proximal and distal poles, a tubercle& waist. The proximal pole
is completely intra-articular&receives all of its blood supply from the
distal branches oftheradial artery. This enters the scaphoid in a
retrogradefashion (distal to proximal). Therefore, fractures in theproximal
pole are most at risk of non-union or avascularnecrosis. In contrast, distal
pole fractures tend to heal withoutproblems.
