Age Detection of Child | Crack PGIMER 22 MAY 2016

A patient is brought to you for a well-child visit. The child is able to transfer an object from hand-to-hand, maintain a seated position, imitate speech sounds, and has a neat pincer grasp. Which of the following is the most likely age of this child?

A. 4 months
B. 6 months
C. 8 months
D. 10 months

Ans. (D). 10 months
Transferring objects from hand-to-hand occurs at 41/2 to 71/2 months of age. Most infants are able to sit without support between 5 and 7 months of age. Speech sounds can be imitated between 51/2 and 71/2 months of age. A neat pincer grasp is not seen until approximately 91/2 months of age, and may be seen as late as 15
months of age. Therefore, the child described must be at least 91/2 months of age. The abilities of this child would not all be present in a child at 4 months, 6 months, or 8 months of age. A 2-month-old child smiles responsively, follows to midline, and regards a face but is not able to imitate speech sounds, cannot transfer an object from handto-hand, does not have a neat pincer grasp, and cannot maintain a seated position.
