Emergency operations


Emergency operation done in cases of 

a. Volvulus 
b. Obstructed hernia 
c. Appendicular perforation paralytic ileus 
d. Pt. on A.T.T. associated caecal obstruction
e. all of above


Ans. (A) Volvulus; (B) Obstructed hernia; (C) Appendicular perforation with paralytic iletis.
• When there is evidence of generalized peritonitis, ileus, intestinal obstruction or systemic toxicity along with perforated appendicitis, emergency appendectomy should be undertaken. This should be delayed only for as long as is required to ensure adequate fluid resuscitation and administration of broad spectrum antibiotics.

• Ileocaccal tuberculosis treated with chemothrapeutic regimen. Surgery is only indicated if medical therapy fails or associated with perforation or intestinal obstruction.
