Capnography basically monitors:
A. Central venous pressure B. Blood pressure during anesthesiaC. Concentration of exhaled CO2 D. Concentration of inhaled CO2
E. Concentration of inhaled O2
Answer.
C. Concentration of
exhaled CO2
Capnography is the graphic display of
CO2 concentration - end tidal CO2, as a waveform. In majority of the
cases the CO2 concentration is measured by infrared spectroscopy.
The other methods used are mass spectroscopy Raman scattering, by colorimetric
device etc.
Capnometry means numerical presentation
of the concentration without a waveform. Capnography includes capnometry. Capnography
is a very important and sensitive tool for monitoring 'in anaesthesia. It is
the sure confirmatory sign of correct intubation.
