Hemolytic uremic syndrome | PGI entrance Preparations

Hemolytic uremic syndrome is caused by 

A. Verocytotoxin E. coli
B. Sh. dysenteric type I. 

C. Salmonella
D. Cyclosporine 

E. Vibrio choleriae

Causes of haemolytic-uremic syndrome are:-
A. Diarrhoea prodrome (D or typical HUS)
— E. coli (usually E. coli 0157 ; H7)
— Shigella dysenteriae-1.
— Salmonella
B. Not associated with diarrhoea (D or atypical HUS)
— Drugs e.g. cyclosporine, tacrolimus, mitomycin.
— Delyed complication of high dose cortico steroid therapy.
— Autologous bone marrow or stem cell transplantation.
— Hereditary.
Note
• D type is seen in young children.
• D type is seen iii older children.
• In adult HUS is precepitated by estrogen use or postpartum state.
— In the causes of HUS vibrio cholerae doesn’t mention.
