The following combinations of aminoglycosides may prove harmful, except:
A. Along with vancomycin.
B. Along with furosemide.C. Along with penicillin.
D. Along with d-tubocürarine.
Ans.
C. Along with penicillin.
Aminoglycosides are nephrotoxic and ototoxic
agents. Their concurrent use with polymyxin B, vancomycin, and amphotericin B
should be avoided, as they too are nephrotoxic. They should be avoided with
furosemide, which is also ototoxic. They inhibit prejunctional release of
acetylcholine and reduce the postsynaptic sensitivity to acetylcholine hence
can enhance neuromuscular blocked with d-tubocurarine. Penicillin and an
aminoglycoside combination are useful in subacute bacterial endocarditis due to
enterococci.
