In acute viral hepatitis, liver is slightly enlarged, soft and greenish.
Following pathologic changes are seen:-
— Ballooning
degeration of hepatocytes.
— Some
hepatocytes become necrotic and forms eosinophilic councilman body or
acidophilic body.
—Dropout
necrosis, where some hepatocytes undergo lysis.
Focal necrosis; this type of necrosis involves small group of hepatocytes
irregularly distributed in hepatic lobules. Piece meal necrosis and bridging
necrosis is seen in chronic active hepatitis.
