Patient receiving cell component transfusion | Medical PG Preparations

Most early and common reaction in patient receiving cell component transfusion is

A. FNHTR
B. Transfusion related infections
C. Anaphylactic reaction
D. Hemolysis

Ans. A. FNHTR
• Most frequently associated with transfusion of cellular blood components is a febrile nonhemolytictransfusionreaction FNHTR. .
• These reactions are characterized by chills and rigors and a >1°C rise in temperature.
• FNHTR is diagnosed when other causes of fever in the transfused patient are ruled out.

Antibodies directed against donor leukocyte and HLA antigens may mediate these reactions; thus frequentlytransfused patients and multiparous women are felt to be at increased risk.
