Desmopressin (DDAVP = desamino-D-arginine-8 vasopressin) acetate is the
treatment of choice for central diabetes insipidus. It is a synthetic analogue
of AVP that acts selectively at V2 receptors to increase urine concentration
and decrease urine flow in dose dependent manner. Lypressin or vasopressin are
alternatives.
