Small cell carcinoma features are: 

A. Commonest malignancy of lung 
B. Associated with paraneoplastic syndrome 
C. Don’t cause SVC syndrome 
D. Chemosensitive 
E. Commonly present with metastasis to brain.

• Adenocarcinoma of lung is most common carcinoma of lung. Other varieties as decreasing frequency in incidence are: Squamous cell Ca, small cell Ca, large cell Ca and bronchoalveola Ca.
• Small cell Ca is alw paraneoplastic syndrome e.g. ACTH and ANP or ADH produced by small cell Ca.
• Both small cell Ca and squamous cell Ca cause superior vena cava syndrome.
• Small cell Ca is sensitive to chemotherapy. Response to cisplatin and etoposide are excellent. 80- 100% response in limited stage disease
• Approx 1/3rd of patients with Lung cancer presents with symptoms due to metastatic spread outside the thorax. Skeletal metastasis which are most commonly seen in small cell and large cell tumous.

• Small cell cancer grows rapidly and widely highly malignant tumour and over 2/3rd of patients presents with evidence of extensive disease with metastasis. The important clinical sites includes Liver, CNS & Bone. Other less frequent sites are abdominal lymphnode adrenals& other abdominal organs.
